I wanted to write to The List to ask for some prayers.
One of our Rescue Program's sweetest boys "Shorty" is taking that long sad
road to Rainbow Bridge. He was diagnosed with hermangio sarcoma (?) and
hasn't been doing so well recently. Treatment options have all been
discussed and tumors removed and Shelly (his companion) has made the
decision to just let him take it one day at a time as comfortably as possible.
Shorty was one of the happiest dogs I have ever fostered. He wagged his
tail harder and faster than any dog I have ever met. Shelly Walker adopted him
in Kansas City and many volunteers got together to transport this big smile
of a dog from CT to KS.
Shorty was the result of an ugly divorce. The husband wanted the dog, the
wife "won" the dog. She kept young Shorty outside on a rope to spite the
husband and once custody was granted, she surrendered him to our program.
Shorty was covered in fleas head to toe....the fleas dropped to my kitchen
floor by the hundreds and the acne on his muzzle just dripped blood.
Several attempts to contact the husband to give the dog back failed....and Shorty
became part of our program.
Shelly Walker has owned Shorty just two years now. She said the paperwork
from my vet here in CT was from October and November of 2000....so she
thinks the adoption might have been 2 years to the day.... and states that
Shorty has added so much to her life....if she has given half as much as he has
given to her, she'll feel satisfied. He has been a WONDERFUL addition to
her world and she can't thank everyone enough for helping her to adopt this
love (especially; Lindy, Mai and Michele). She just wanted everyone to know how
he was doing.
Please say a little prayer for our Shorty and for Shelly Walker who will
hold his heart close to her for a very long time......
I have attached a small photo of this Rescued angel. Shorty is a very
special boy.
